Hi All,
First time for me posting in the off topic section.
Just a few hours ago we had to say goodbye to our beloved dog. She started collapsing last night, we went straight to a vet surgery but there was nothing they could do.
She was a 10 year old girl.
I would usually share a commemorative post on social media, but I have quite withdrawn from socials in the past year.
She was an incredibly sweet-natured dog yet stubborn and a little cheeky. She loved her food, including stealing everyone’s snacks if given the chance.
Above all, she was a great sister to our other dog as well as to our two children. Always gentle, patient and playful.
Her death today was completely unexpected. I know she was 10 but until yesterday she was still very active and athletic. Only 5 days ago she was swimming in the sea.
I am glad I gave her a cheeky slice of pizza yesterday evening. She truly enjoyed it.
I miss my girl. She had full trust in me (as a wayward this is something that hit hard lately).
I held her until she passed.
Goodbye girl ❤️

LonelyGuilty,
So sorry to hear about the loss of your beautiful pup. I have an old cat at home and I am scared of when that day happens for me. It sounds like your doggo was a beloved member of your family. And she knew that (pizza helps ❤️!) Please treat the grief that same as you would a human- it is a terrible loss and comes with all the same grief.
Have you thought about a memorial for her? A friend had a little stained glass window ornament custom made on Etsy for her dog and it was really cute and very affordable and now their dog is there all the time. Whatever you do, be gentle with yourself. 🐾🐾

Thank you so much BearlyBreathing ❤️
I think I will buy a little shrub or a small tree in her memory.
We will also receive her ashes in a few days.
I am so very sad. I was hoping we would have more years together 💔 it was so unexpected… which I guess it was "good" for her, as she was happy and fit until the very end.
I just wish I could see her walking towards me one more time.
I wish your darling cat many more years ❤️

I'm sorry for your loss. We lost our oldest in January. She was just over 13 1/2 years old, and very old for her breed. It was a long goodbye with her - she had a host of problems going on. There is no good way to lose a beloved friend, that's for sure.
One thing I do is I make a Christmas ornament as a memorial. I buy a plastic bulb that you can put a picture in or I buy a really small frame that I can tie a red or green ribbon on top to hang on the tree. I like having a special little memorial for them on our tree. I have planted a tree in memory of a couple of them, too. Made a whole darned garden for one, and it broke my heart when we moved! At least my little ornaments can come with us wherever we go.

Thanks Sacksofsorry, and I am also sorry for your loss back in January.
The Christmas bauble is a lovely idea.
I will also print a picture of her and put it in the kitchen (her favourite place to be. Who knows what delights might fall from the kitchen counter!)
I can’t believe she is not here tonight.

Funny you mention that. I have quite a collection of urns/ashes in my office of my past dogs. But my old girl that passed in January is on my nightstand because she slept with her head on it. It looked so uncomfortable, but she persisted in sleeping with her head there. So that's where she is now.

Still have the ashes of my best friend on the upright piano in my living room. It’s become a semi-temple, with pictures of my parents, in-laws and others that have left this existence. Before going to bed I tend to stop by the piano, look at those pictures and thank the people for their impact in my life, and then pet the box the ashes are kept in and his collar and dog-tag. I find peace in this, and a recognition that whomever makes it on top of that piano is important and cherished by me.
Your post reflects that you cared for her, and that saying goodbye wasn’t easy. I’m always glad when I read posts that reflect these emotions, because it indicates yet one more dog that lived a good life of care and love.
