As members will notice this site was attacked by a spammer.

Our first action was to prevent the poster from starting more threads.

We are now working at closing the threads started by the user, and eliminating the content.

At the moment, the first page of Just Found Out and General are full of these useless and tasteless threads. We ask posters to be active at going to page 2 and even further, and to comment on threads that are relevant and should be getting attention. That should escalate them to the first page.

Thank you all for your support.

Folks – at the moment there seems to be an issue that when we bump posts they don’t go to the top of the lane. Mods and Admins have been notified and hopefully we can get rid of the junk left behind by the spammer.
Seeing as what he was peddling, it makes one understand why sorcerers were burned at the stake back in the days....

Don't know how who all kerp up with everything, it's gotta be a herculean effort. Well done to the mods.

SI was attacked by quite an industrious SPAMER who managed to post 77 threads in about 12 minutes before being stopped. Due to the quantity his gibberish pushed threads down to page 2 and beyond.
We have posted a bump on many threads that were active and/or on page 1 before this attack, getting them back on page 1 and pushing the spam posts down the list.
If you think some post deserves or should be on page 1, then please check pages 2 and beyond, and bump them back to the top.

Thanks to all the mods and admin for your hard work!

There has to be some coding you can use to prevent posters from posting, say no more than 6 per hour. I'm not sure what platform you use for the site, but your networking or IT folks might be able to assist.

Yet another spam-attack...

I want to ask you all one favor:

Flip through the pages and find the posts that SHOULD be here on page 1 and add something to those posts. Doesn’t have to be anything more than "bump", but by doing this you escalate it to the front.

This way, we can get this drivel and junk out of view, and the Admin will later deal with the clean-up.

As a member who cares for this site:

This site has always been a love-project by the couple that founded it. After Deeply Scared passed away from cancer in 2016 her grieving husband – MangledHeart, the site administrator – has kept the site alive in her memory.

This hasn’t always been easy. I know there is a financial burden beyond the membership fees and donations. I know that maintaining this site requires time, and MH just like all of us has plenty to do with his time. This site is totally dependent on volunteer staff and the contributions of it’s members.

Our members have vast experiences, and we have gotten suggestions on how to prevent spam-attacks. I am 100% certain MH is working on this issue, but I am also quite certain that both time restraints and financial cost are impacting the next steps.

We that have gotten any benefit or that value this site should be asking "what can I do to help?"

Well...

Bump threads to the top.

Become a Gold or Platinum member – I can assure you the fees are well used for the site.

Be patient and give the Admins and Mods time to fix this problem.
